Dragon Tears

Traditionally brewed in the smoked beer centric Bamberg region of Germany, Dragon Tears Rauchbier is known for its distinctive campfire-like aroma and smoky flavour.

We brew this beer almost entirely with beechwood smoked malt that has been dried over an open flame, imparting rich, earthy, and smoky notes.

This whisper of smoke is complemented by a malt forward profile with flavours of toasted bread, caramel and a light sweetness. Dragon Tears balances smoke with smooth maltiness making it an approachable yet unique beer that’s a favourite of our brewers.

Unique note: every year Eric sheepishly mentions we should make Rauchbier. It’s a very specific style and he’s lucky because I love it too. We once went to Hop and Brew School in Yakima Washington. On our way home we stopped at Chuckanut Brewing Co., a brewery that only makes German beer. They had a Rauchbier on tap and we each had one alongside an Oyster Po’ Boy sandwich and it was possibly the greatest beer/food pairing we’d ever enjoyed. We still talk about it to this day.

Eric will tell you that it was a Smoked Helles but it doesn’t make the story as good.
