Smoked Honey Doppelbock

Beechwood Smoked Honey Doppelbock

As a 7.9% Smoked Honey beer in a big 650ml bottle this beer goes against all conventional wisdom. Yet it is still one of our most popular and sought after creations.

Brewed with a combination of Vienna Malt, Beechwood Smoked Malt, and Munich Malt, Smoked Honey Doppelbock is a fusion of tradition and modern craftsmanship. With minimal hop additions, it allows the ingredients to shine, particularly the honey sourced from the New West Beekeeper’s Society.

SHD boasts a complex flavour profile that begins with a gentle smokiness from the beechwood smoked malt, followed by a subtle sweetness derived from the New Westminster Beekeeper’s Association’s honey. This beer is lovingly lagered for eight weeks, allowing it to fully mature and develop, resulting in a rich and velvety texture. As you leisurely sip, you’ll be amazed at how the 7.9% ABV creeps up on you. Its light smokiness and balanced finish make it the perfect accompaniment for an elegant meal or a moment of relaxation, perhaps while seated in a leather chair with your feet up on a rich mahogany coffee table.

The history of doppelbock is fascinating, with its roots tracing back to the 14th century in the German town of Einbeck. Originally a dark, malty, lightly hopped ale, it was later adapted by Munich brewers in the 17th century to fit the lager style of brewing. Due to a Bavarian accent, “Einbeck” became “ein Bock,” meaning “a billy goat” in German, which is how the beer got its name. This double bock, or “Doppelbock” in German, is a nod to its rich history and the dedication to preserving the traditional characteristics of the style. Smoked Honey Doppelbock is a testament to the enduring appeal of these historic beer traditions, while still embracing contemporary brewing techniques.
